Welcome To YA YA CARDS !!!
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullah all and welcome! My name is Aafiah, the owner of YA YA CARDS and I’d thought it would be great to detail how this whole thing started.
Well, it’s a long story, so let’s see how this goes…
Alhamdulilah, I reverted to Islam about 10 years ago, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life, but it came with many challenges. Some I could foresee and others I was yet to have any knowledge of. I readily anticipated the change of dress, wearing the hijab, and also only eating halal 🍔🍣🍕, but what I knew about at the time, but wasn’t sure how to approach, was how to translate my passion for art and design mainly painting and illustrating 🖼 into something that would be a form of ibaadah by way of not falling into tasweer or image-making.
One afternoon in Brixton Library in late 2013, I came up with the idea of designing greeting cards for all the nikahs, (sisters were literally getting married every other weekend Allahumma baarik) I was attending to because I couldn't find ones that I liked- AT ALL!
I'm a sister of few words alhamdulilah and I like to keep myself to myself, so how I express my love towards others is in a written format and gifts that are neatly wrapped with contemporary-styled wrapping paper. And of course, it's sunnah to give gifts right?!
Al-Bukhari (rahimahullah) narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (radhiAllahu anha) said: "The Messenger of Allah (sallaAllahu alayhi wasallam) used to accept gifts and reward people for giving them."
So, I married to two ideas and hear we have it, YA YA CARDS!
We started with 6 card designs and they were selling like hot cakes alhamduillah, Now we also sell mugs, notebooks and more!
One day I will get into the nitty-gritty of the YA YA CARDS journey, but for now, I want to say thank you to all that have supported us on the way and to our customers who purchase our cards many years on!
